HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – COVID-19 may have put a crimp on St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in two strongholds of Irish influence, but it hasn’t stopped similar matters elsewhere.
There will not be a parade next Tuesday in Dublin or in Boston due to the virus, with 19 confirmed cases as of Tuesday on the Emerald Isle, and taking “an abundance of caution” in Beantown. As for the 16th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration in Holland, slated to step off from the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place at 12 Noon on Saturday, the green light for the Wearin’ o’ the Green is still on, according to event organizer Cathy Blackburn. “Watching all of the news reports, (the experts) are saying that you are much safer in an outdoor environment,” she said during a Tuesday appearance on “WHTC Morning News.” “As of now, we are moving forward with it, and we plan on having it on Saturday. We’ll monitor what’s happening, as well as everybody in the state, and if there any changes, we’ll let people know.”
