HICKORY CORNERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A new exhibit is scheduled for opening at the Gilmore Car Museum, but the organization is asking for help with public funding to make it a reality.
The new museum exhibit is meant to showcase muscle cars from the 1960’s and 70’s era, which it says has been largely missing from the vehicle roster.
“The reality is that the advent of the muscle car marks a time in our history that should be honored and passed on in a way that exemplifies the spirit of the culture and vibrance of the era,” museum officials said in a statement. “With our new Muscle Car Building we plan to fully celebrate the grit, heat, and power of the 1960s and early ‘70s muscle car era.”
The project will involve the construction of a new exhibit at around 25,000 total square feet, plus 3,000 square feet of exhibit space. The new building will sit on Gilmore’s Dealership Row.
Other features slated to be included are a replica dealership showroom, a vintage speed shop, and new restroom facilities.
In order to fund this project, the museum released the following breakdown of how the requested $5 million would be used –
- Museum construction: $3,000,000
- Professional exhibit design: $500,000
- Funds to increase endowment: $1,500,000
The project is expected to begin either this Spring or Summer. More information on how to get involved with the fundraiser can be found at the museum website. Further information, including concept art of the new exhibit, can be viewed at this link.
