WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Bella of the Ball continues to top the dog name charts in Ottawa County.
County Treasurer Amanda Price’s office announced on Friday that Bella remained the most common name for registered canines in the county during 2019, with Charlie and Lucy still second and third, respectively. Daisy jumped into the top 10 as the fourth most popular, ahead of Max and Sadie, which stayed fifth and sixth from 2018’s totals, respectively. Buddy moved up one notch to seventh, followed by Maggie, which climbed two place to eighth. Bailey fell from fourth to ninth, and Zoey is the other newcomer at 10th. Dropping out of the county’s top 10 were Molly and Cooper.
As for dog breeds, the most licenses in 2019 were issued to Labrador Retrievers, followed by the Golden Retriever, the German Shepherd, the Chihuahua and the Shih Tzu. Those five were also tops in 2018, with the Chihuahua and Shih Tzu swapping spots.
Since 1919, state law has required canines to be licensed through the treasurer’s offices in Michigan’s 83 counties.
