HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – On this National Love Your Pet Day, the City of Holland is close to getting its first dog park established.
Following in the steps of three similar successful ventures on the North Side, and in conjunction with officially banning non-service canines from the 8th Street Marketplace when the Farmers Market is in operation, Tulip City officials are looking at a three-acre site on the Van Raalte Farm campus off of East 16th Street to build separate areas for large and small dogs, an enclosed and heated dog wash station, and human restrooms.
It’s been a long-time dream for First Ward Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem Mike Trethewey. “There is a (crowdfunding) fundraiser going on right now,” he said during an appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town” today. “We’re looking at north of $200,000 (to make it a reality). Just like everything else in the city, we don’t want to do something halfway; we want to do it properly.”
Supporters hope to break ground on the Dog Park at Van Raalte this summer.
