OTSEGO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — State officials are shutting down a home day care in Allegan County amid abuse allegations.
The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs announced that they’re suspending the license of Nancy Xenos on Earl Street in Otsego for “violations related to appropriate care and supervision.”
A document released by state officials explains that on February 5th Xenos apparently became upset with a child because they would not lie down and began jumping from cot to cot. That’s when Xenos reportedly grabbed the child by the neck, pushed their face into a cot, and placed her foot on the child’s back telling them to stop.
When the child’s mother arrived she noticed marks and bruises on her child’s face and neck and said that the child was visibly shaking. When the mother addressed this to Xenos she explained that she did not know how the child received the injuries but stated that earlier they were jumping from one cot to another. The child was take to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and examined.
According to LARA’s news release, “The summary suspension order prohibits Xenos from operating a group child care home at 486 Earl Street, Otsego, or at any other address or location. Accordingly, she may not accept children for care after that date and time. The order also requires the licensee to inform all parents of children in her care that the license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide child care.”
