HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The official image of Holland’s annual signature event for 2020 has been created by a Fennville woman.
Aron Lowe’s creation “Dutch Dance” was unveiled as the winner of the 10th annual Tulip Time Festival Artwork Competition during Thursday night’s “First Bloem Celebration of the Visual Arts” event at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center. The image of a diverse mix of 10 women in traditional Dutch costume, in a stylized pattern on a green background, surrounded by images of tulips, was selected by a jury that considered 20 finalists culled from 110 overall submissions by 56 artists.
This was Lowe’s first entry in this annual competition, and she said in a statement from the festival that this work is a departure from her usual medium of sculpting with felted wool. Posters and giclee prints of “Dutch Dance,” along with other merchandise adorning this image, will go on sale, starting on Monday, at the Festival’s office off Eighth Street and online at tuiptime.com.
The other 19 finalists will now be put into the “Viewers’ Choice Awards” competition that will be chosen by Tulip Time visitors to the Holland Area Arts Council building, as well as online, during the 91st annual festival, May 2-8, 2020, with the top three entries earning cash prices that will be awarded on May 9.
