HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — A 60-year-old man is in police custoday after ramming an Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputy’s car last night.
It happened just before 6:45 p.m., Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at the intersection of James Street and 136th Avenue in Holland Township, while the deputy was stopped at a traffic light. The suspect vehicle pulled up next to the police car, paused, then reversed and pulled into the deputy’s lane, behind the cruiser, before ramming it.
Then, that driver fled.
The deputy was able to give chase, joined by other dputies, who found the man in his car, stopped for a light at Beeline Road and Lakewood Boulevard, where he was taken into custody after a short scuffle with police.
Sheriff’s authorities indicated the man told officers at the scene he intentionally rammed the cruiser because he was upset with police over an earlier interaction with them.
