HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A pickup with a camper on the back crashed so hard on I-196 Tuesday night, it disintegrated and left debris strewn along the highway for a quarter-of-a-mile on Monday night.
The driver went by ambulance to the Bronson-South Haven Hospital, with what authorities say are non-life-threatening injuries.
South Haven Area firefighters responded to the crash, on northbound at the M-140 exit (No. 18) in South Haven Township, Van Buren County, at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020.
The vehicle had been headed north when the driver lost control just before the M-140 overpass. the truck and camper skidded along the concrete bridge supports and traveled several hundred feet. Parts of the camper were strewn on the highway.
Northbound traffic was disrupted while South Haven emergency responders cleared the highway of debris before turning the scene over to MDOT officials.
The crash is under investigation by the South Haven Police Department.
