HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — An early morning head-on crash in Georgetown Township on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, caused injuries to two people. One of the drivers is an Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputy.
The crash happened at 5:45 a.m., according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Eric Westveer, on Port Sheldon road at 34th Avenue. The Sheriff’s deputy was on duty and had been headed east in a patrol car on Port Sheldon Road near 34th Avenue. At the same time, a 47-year-old Grand Rapids woman was driving west on Port Sheldon Road in a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. Her vehicle crossed the center line, striking the patrol car head on.
The deputy, pinned in his cruiser, had to be freed by emergency responders.
Both drivers had been wearing seatbelts. They each went by ambulance to area hospitals in what police called “serious but stable condition.”
Police are not identifying the drivers at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
