Helen Overweg, 92, of North Blendon, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.
Helen was born March 24, 1927, to Isaac and Ethel (Dill) Kramer. She graduated from Grandville High School, and in 1949 she married Gerald Overweg. Gerald and Helen raised their children on their family farm in North Blendon and they were longtime members of North Blendon Christian Reformed Church. At church Helen served for many years in the Ladies Aid Society, and she also enjoyed volunteering at Love INC Allendale. In 1996, after 47 years of marriage, Gerald preceded her in death. Helen’s son David Overweg also preceded her in death in 2015.
She is survived by her children: Larry and Sue Overweg, Marilyn Bell, James and Diana Overweg, Steve and Lora Overweg; daughter-in-law Luanne and Tom Geurink; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, sisters: Laura and Andy Emelander, Dorothy and Roland Van Noord, Julia Wabeke; sister-in-law Carol Kramer.
A funeral service to honor the faith and life of Helen Overweg will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 11, 2020, at North Blendon Christian Reformed Church, 7284 Taylor, Hudsonville, 49426. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm, Friday, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Interment will be in Blendon Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to North Blendon CRC, or to Spectrum Hospice.
