GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A pair of missions helping the homeless in Grand Rapids are formally joining forces.
In a statement released on Tuesday, officials of Mel Trotter Ministries and Heartside Ministry announced that, as of last Wednesday, “the merger of agency assets become official … no services or jobs are affected by the merger.”
The two entities had been working under a two-year shared services agreement that combined operational functions, and in the statement, the merger would help in “reducing operational costs, eliminating potential duplication of services, and creating a greater impact for the populations the agencies both serve.”
Under the terms of the merger, which was agreed upon by the boards of both agencies last month, Heartside Ministry staff and programs will move to Mel Trotter’s headquarters off of Commerce Avenue, although Heartside will continue to operate under its current name at its Division Avenue location. Officials say that it will take most of the upcoming year to complete all of the operational moves of the merger.
