HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Zeeland City Council is set to meet at 6 p.m.today, Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, for a study session and 7 p.m. for a business meeting at City Hall, 21 S. Elm St. in Zeeland.
The agenda includes discussions on a special assessment for downtown maintennace; approving a commercial rehabilitation district for 3D Properties, 1450 East Main, and a conversation on the sidewalks and snow melt along Lawrence and Cherry, as well as some goal setting.
The baord will cast vosts on the 3D Properties special district and special assessment during the 7 p.m. business meeting.
The sidewalk issue is unusual, according to a memo from City Manager Tim Klunder to council, because some residents are objecting to having the sidewalk. Klunder made the case that the goal of having a walkable community includes sidewalks on each street — but he also listed a series of design challenges, and the option of having a sidewalk on one side of the stret. Klunder’s memo included a caution against making an emotional decision to provide waivers on one street that could lead to similar future requests.
