HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Holland resident Juan Sandro Cabrera, 18, was sentenced to 83 years, three months in prison with no chance of parole, according to a WOOD-TV report.
In October, he was convicted of first-degree murder, for the Feb.16, 2019, shooting death of Holland resident Troy “T.J.” Wells Jr., 14.
Wells was shot dead in the hallway of Hampton Inn, 12427 Felch St. in Holland Township, during an argument with another man.
Testimony during the trial indicated Cabrera belongs to the Latin Kings, and suggested Wells belonged to a rival gang. Wells’ family members have vehemently denied he was active with gangs, but did say he behaved at times as a “wanna be” gang member.
Cabrera’s father, Juan Pablo Cabrera, had a pretrial hearing Monday on obstruction charges. Police said he lied to them during the murder investigation. Three other people have been charged related to this case, including the younger Cabrera’s mother, a man she was dating at the time, and the elder Cabrera’s current wife.
