Carol Jeanne Haadsma, age 74, of Holland, formerly Grand Rapids, passed away from M.S.A., a variant of Parkinsonism on Sunday, December 29, 2019.
Carol was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 30, 1945 to Arthur and Audrey Haadsma. She attended Creston High School in Grand Rapids and graduated in 1963. After attending Grand Rapids Community College she completed her Bachelors Degree in Business Education in 1970 at Western Michigan University and earned her Masters degree in Education from Western in 1973. At that time teaching positions were hard to find but she taught for a year at Annville Institute in Annville, Kentucky. Over the years she worked in various office positions and most recently in electronics assembly at Fleetwood Group in Holland. She retired in 2012 from Fleetwood. Ms. Haadsma had a broad range of interests including love of music, reading, and traveling. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Carol was a member of Seventh Reformed Church in Grand Rapids in her earlier years and in more recent years was a member of the Holland Gospel Chapel.
Carol is survived by her fiancé Harry Derks and his siblings, her father Arthur (98), four sisters Beth VanZweden, Deb (Tony) Bierens, Kathy Spalink, Lori (Dave) Huber, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Ms. Haadsma was preceded in death by her mother Audrey in 2016.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 2 from 6 to 8 pm at the Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 3 at the Holland Gospel Chapel, 106 W. 26th Street with Mr. Mike Fitzhugh officiating. Interment will be in North Holland Cemetery.
