OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 36-year-old Zeeland woman and her two children were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash in West Olive on Monday morning.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Eric Westveer didn’t disclose any names, but did say that the woman, who was driving a sedan southbound on 96th Avenue near Polk Street slammed head on to a northbound gravel truck that veered into her lane to avoid hitting stopped traffic ahead of it around 10:15 AM.
The force of the collision pinned the woman, who had to be extricated by rescuers and was flown to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in critical condition. Her two children, aged 4 and 2, were taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in serious condition, while the trucker, a 65-year-old South Haven man, was not hurt.
The incident caused the area to be closed for a length period of time. Westveer added that all involved were buckled up at the time as the crash remains under investigation.
