HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s authorities have identified the teen who died after being struck by a car Wednesday morning as Aline Mapendo, 16, of Holland Township.
The West Ottawa High School student was walking to the school bus stop when she was hit by a car, just before 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s authorities say the crash happened on James Street, just east of Beech Street, (near Butternut Drive) in Holland Township. The teen was walking to her bus stop, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. David VanderPloeg. She had been walking west in the road along the south (eastbound) side of James Street, and was hit by a vehicle that had been eastbound.
The driver, a 50-year-old Holland woman, told deputies she didn’t see the girl before the crash. The teen was transported to Holland Hospital by AMR Ambulance, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the motor vehicle was not injured in this crash.
