WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It was Adoption Day at the Ottawa County Fillmore Street Complex yesterday as 10 children formally become members of new families before Chief Probate Judge Mark Feyen.
County Clerk and Register of Deeds Justin Roebuck was on hand, as 169 adoption cases were filed at his office last year, with 62 of those finalized. “It’s kind of an unique opportunity to bring others in,” he explained during his monthly visit to “WHTC Talk of the Town” today, “because most adoptions are more private, but these families agreed to open this up and allow the community to see what happens in an adoption.”
According to state officials, there are more than 13 thousand youngsters in the foster care system, with three thousand of those awaiting adoption, and Adoption Day is a way to raise the awareness of this situation.
