HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A reception is set for 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 15, 2019, to open Holland Area Arts Council’s show, “Rarified Objects, the Collaborative & Individual Works of Lorma Freestone & Thea Grigsby.”
In their collaborative works, Freestone and Grigsby began by creating artworks that incorporate ordinary objects with paintings, combinations elevating each image’s meaning.
The works honor the unsung women of civilization, from Hypatia of Alexandria and Hildegard of Bingen, to Ada Lovelace, NASA’s Katherine Johnson, and Margaret Hamilton, Katie Bouman, Amelia Earhart, and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg — in the artists’ parlance, “the fabulous RBG!”
Friends and colleagues for over a decade, Freestone and Grigsby recently retired from their respective executive director positions at the Holland Area Arts Council and South Haven Center for the Arts.
This exhibition is made possible with the help of Doug and Nancy Padnos.
The show runs through Sunday, Jan. 15, 2020 at the Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East Eighth St. in Holland, where the hours are 5:30-8 p.m. Mondays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The arts council is closed on Sunday.
