HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Polkton Township resident Jaron Paul Chatman, 25, early Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019.
He is charged with manslaughter and felony firearms, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett.
Chatman was initally charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, after his estranged wife, Emily Chatman, 24, was shot in the head. She died of her injuries on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019.
Chatman was taken into custody without incident, and remains in Ottawa County Jail on a $50,000 bond. This incident remains under investigation.
A WOOD–TV8 report found that Emily Chatman appealed to Circuit Court Judge Jon A. Van Allsburg for an emergency protection order, which he denied, indicating that the order could wait until a formal court hearing. Jaron Chatman would have been able to attend that hearing, which was never scheduled, according to WOOD’s report.
