HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A head-on crash just after 12:30 Monday afternoon injured four people, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Buter.
It happened on James Street, west of 104th Avenue, where police learned that an eastbound 2006 Nissan Murano wiht a 50-year-old Zeeland woman at the wheel, lost control on the slush and ice, crossing over into the westbound lane. The Nissan hit — nearly head-on — a 2015 Honda CR-V, with a 76-year-old Zeeman man at the wheel.
The impact sent the CR-V off the road and into a field.
A 66-year-old Zeeland woman, a passenger in the CR-V, and wife of the driver, went by ambulance to an area hospital. Her husband also had what appeared to be minor injuries.
Two passengers in the Murano, a 25-year-old woman and a 1-year-old girl, were taken to an area hospital for observation.
Police closed that stretch of James Street for safety’s sake, as they investigated the crash, and cleared the debris. Holland Township firefighters and AMR Ambulance EMTs assisted deputies at the scene.
The wintery weather kept police very busy with traffic-related calls. As of 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. deputies has responded to 54 property damage crashes, eight personal injury crashes and assisted motorists in 36 other cases.
Police routinely appeal to drivers to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and allow extra commute time during inclement weather.
