HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a fatal crash even as forensics specialists are attempting to identify the body of the presumed driver, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Morgan Sullivan
Police were called to the single-vehicle crash shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, near the intersection of Blue Star Highway and 109th Avenue. in Casco Township, and found a Dodge Durango engulfed in flames.
South Haven firefighters extinguish the fire and determined someone was still inside.
Police believe the Durango had been westbound on 109th and failed to yield at the stop sign crossing Blue Star Highway and flipped upside down after hitting a small hill in a wooded area on private property. Police found no witnesses to the crash.
The Durango’s VIN and registration plate were destroyed in the fire, and police are hoping for tips from the public about anyone who had been driving a Durango, possible silver in color, last night in the area of the crash. Sullivan can be reached at 269-673-0500 ext. 4211.
Michigan State Police, South Haven Area Emergency Services, and Consumers Power assisted the deputies at the crash scene.
Sullivan indicated it’s unclear whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
