HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland resident Juan Sandro Cabrera has been convicted of murdering 14-year-old Holland resident Troy “TJ” Wells Jr., according to multiple media reports.
WZZM noted testimony indicating three of at least six shots that hit Wells in the torso on Feb. 16 at the Holland Township Hamton Inn were fatal.
Cabrara will be sentenced for first-degree murder, which carries a lifetime, no parole, penalty; felony firearm and gang membership. Police found evidence that he belonged to the Latin Kings. MLive reported testimony indicating Wells was not a member of Latin Kings’ rival, Gangster Disciples, but was friends with “wanna be” members of that gang.
Cabrera’s sentence date has not been set as of Wednesday, according to The Holland Sentinel’s report.
The case ensnared both of Cabrera’s parents, his stepmother and his mother’s boyfriend. All were charged with aiding him after the shooting and lying to police about it, according to WOOD TV. Cabrera’s mother, Sarah Cintron, is serving 60 days in jail and is under a judge’s order not to contact her son.
