HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Georgetown Township resident Timothy Alan Koets. 50, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, in connection to the drowning death of his 16-year-old special-needs son, according to Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett.
On March 28, 2019, deputies were called to the family home, on the 4300 block of Port Sheldon Road, after the teen had gotten into the family swimming pool, Bennett said.
Lifesaving efforts ensued as the teen went by ambulance to Helen Devos Children’s Hospital. He was declared dead shortly after, Bennett said.
Detectives continued investigating for nearly seven months, and this week arrested Koets at Grand Rapids Community College, where he was an associate professor in the Computer Applications Department.
He faces four charges: manslaughter, second-degree child abuse, committing child abuse in the presence of another child, and fourth-degree child abuse.
