UNDATED, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Consumers Energy is reporting that powerful storms Monday have resulted in power outages in the West Michigan region.
High winds have been attributed to the outages, which have reportedly reached over 50 MPH in places along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
According to an official press release, high winds and thunderstorms are expected across Lower Michigan through Monday evening and into early Tuesday, likely causing additional outages. Consumer Energy maintains that its crews are standing by to restore power in the event of more outages.
The public is reminded of the following safety tips:
- Be aware of the potential for downed electric lines. If you see a downed wire, stay at least 25 feet away and report it by calling 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.
- Never use a generator in an attached garage, basement, enclosed patio or near any air intakes. Doing so could cause a generator to produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless and deadly gas.
