ZEELAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Zeeland’s 30th annual Pumpkinfest kicks off today, Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, with all sorts of kid-friendly fun.
A scavenger hunt is underway today, with 100 coins and 65 special Pumpkinfest coins hidden outdoors, on public property, along downtown Zeeland’s Main Avenue, between Centennial and State streets; and on Church Street, between Main and Central. This is an all-ages event, so people are encouraged to only collect one coin, giving others a chance to play. The hunt runs 24-7, until all coins are found.
People who find a Pumpkinfest special coin could contact zeelandfestivalsinc@gmail.com to set up a time to pick up the prize.
Howard Miller Library hosts a storytime at 10-11 a.m. and Kids Fest is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Church Street, and the annual Kids Tractor Pull at Church and Main is set for 4 p.m. and, after dusk, there’s an outdoor screening of Aladdin at the splashpad.
On Saturday, there’s an 8:30 a.m. 5k, starting at Zeeland East; a pumkin roll at noon at Zeeland Christian’s hill, 334 W. Central; a pumpkin-seed-spitting contest at 1 p.m. at Main and Church; Civil War re-enactors at the Zeeland Museum. 37 E. Main St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and the big parade, at 3 p.m.
