HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Officials from the Roman Catholic Lansing Diosese made public 17 names of priests who are or have been credibly accused of sexually abusing minors.
In a lengthy media release, church officials said they were making the names public as part of a “zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual abuse of minors.”
According to the report, nearly three-percent of more than 16-hundred priests that have been through the Diocese since 1937 have been subject to a credible allegation of sexual abuse.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has earlier announced a campaign to root out abusers in the clergy.
The list released Friday includes those who were permanently removed from ministry; or since deceased; or had allegations in the Lansing area but moved to other dioceses; and those accused while working for the Diocese of Lansing.
Diocesean officials indicated they were not aware of anyone active in ministry within the diocese who has abused a child. The statement released Friday indicates the churc officials are committed to “cooperating fully with law enforcement so that anyone who harms children can be brought to justice.”
Anyone has reason to suspect physical, sexual or emotional abuse of any person of any age, please contact Protective Services or the police, as appropriate.
