HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Housing and development highlight tonight’s Holland City Council work-study session.
The panel will be first getting an update on affordable housing initiatives from representatives of Housing Next and other entities, including the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area. “Affordable housing is such an important issue and such a big issue,” CFHZ President Mike Goorhouse said during his monthly appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town” last Friday. “We need everybody involved in this to make a difference.
“One of the gaps that we saw as Housing Next was doing this work was attracting developers to our community to build mixed-income developments and neighborhoods, and we as a community must create an incentive for those developers to build mixed-income developments and neighborhoods.”
Goorhouse said that the CFHZ and others created the “Holland/Zeeland Housing Pre-Development Fund” to help provide such an incentive, an initiative which he will explain more fully to Council this evening.
Also tonight, the Tulip City’s governing panel will discuss a proposed Wildwood Creek Redevelopment Project, as well as review the Governance Framework and Process Manual Draft Document with retained consultant Dave Medema.
The work-study session, in which no final decisions are made, begins in the Second Floor Training Center of Holland City Hall at 5:30 PM, and is open to the public.
