HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Consumers Energy officials issued a notice that they are monitoring approaching storms, which have already caused the National Weather Service to issue gale warnings, a beach-hazards statement, and a flood advisory.
Consumers indicated that the predicted 35-40 mph winds — and gusts up to 60 mph — independently or coupled with rain, could power outages beginning Tuesday morning across the state.
The main concerns for the public, according to Consumers, is that they:
- Be aware of the potential for downed electric lines. Say at least 25 feet away from downed lines and report them by calling 9-1-1 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.
- Never use a generator in an attached garage, basement, enclosed patio or near any air intakes. Doing so could cause a generator to produce hazardous levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless and deadly gas.
In advance of the storms, people should keep their devices, such as cellphones, tablets and laptop computers, charged.
