ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A convenience store in Zeeland’s Eastern Gateway district was the victim of an armed robbery around dawn on Sunday.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, the clerk at the 7-11 on Homestead Drive off of BL-196 reported that he had been robbed at gunpoint around 6:30 AM. Two men had entered the building with covered faces, one of which drew a small handgun, and demanded money. After the clerk handed the suspects the cash from the registers, the men left, and the clerk was unharmed.
A canine unit followed the track of the fleeing suspects for a short distance before losing the scent. No other details of the incident were immediately disclosed as the suspects were still at large as Sunday drew to a close.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer.
