SAN DIEGO, CA (WHTC-AM/FM) – A Holland native will be the last commander of a US Navy outfit.
In a ceremony last Friday at the San Diego Naval Base, Rear Admiral Timothy Weber was tabbed to lead Navy Medicine West. The chief of the staff in the unit for the past two years, Weber takes over in supervising a health care system for nearly 700 thousand beneficiaries across 10 naval hospitals, two naval dental centers and 51 branch clinics along the West Coast, Asia and the Pacific. In addition, NMW oversees eight research laboratories that support warfighter health and readiness.
Weber replaces Rear Admiral Paul Perigen, who is retiring after 27 years of naval service. The NMW will be renamed Medical Forces Pacific, which the Pentagon says will have a new mission and organizational structure under the Defense Health Agency that will focus on operational medical readiness of both Sailors and Marines, along with the clinical readiness of the Navy’s medical force.
