UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Lakeshore encountered some rumbles of thunder and a few downed tree limbs, but it paled in comparison to what the other side of the state had to endure yesterday.
Trained spotters told the National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids that a maple tree branch with a diameter of about three feet fell around two miles east of Fennville, while several trees were reported down along North Harbor Drive north of Grand Haven. East of Muskegon, a ham radio operator said that a large tree, about 80 feet tall and three feet in diameter, was uprooted in the area of Carleton Street and Apple Avenue. There were no reports of any injuries or substantial property damage caused by the storm that swept through in the late morning hours.
Meanwhile, two waves of storms slammed into metro Detroit yesterday. The first line knocked out power to around 30-thousand customers, and a few thousand more lost power during the second wave that came through, but most of those affected had the lights back on before midnight.
Forecasters are not predicting any inclement weather for the Holland/Zeeland area until Tuesday evening at the earliest.
