HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies are stepping up impaired-driving enforcement beginning Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019.
The enforcement continues through Sept. 2, 2019 — meaning more police officers will be looking for impaired drivers and boater over the the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike VanDenBosch.
The number of fatal crashes in Michigan involving drivers who later tested positive for cannabinoid drugs has nearly doubled since 2013.
In 2018, records show 12 people died in traffic crashes during Michigan’s Labor Day weekend — six of those crash deaths were caused by drunken drivers.
