SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It will be an eventful Monday evening, in more ways than one, in the city of Saugatuck.
At 6 PM, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated at Coghlin Park for the city’s new Shoppers Docks. Flies and Vandenbrink, the engineering firm involved in the renovation of the small landing site for those who wish to come via Kalamazoo Lake to the downtown district, will provide light refreshments. It took several thousand dollars to overhaul what had been a relatively modest dock, and it took about two years to bring the project from conception to reality.
Saugatuck City Council members may not be able to stay too long at the ceremony, for they have a scheduled business meeting planned for 7 PM on Monday at City Hall. Among the items on the agenda is to select a new Mayor Pro Tem, as Jeff Spangler is stepping down from Council due to retirement, “and plans to move out of the city boundaries,” says City Manager Kirk Harrier. Council will also deal with small cell wireless facilities, introducing an ordinance that will be in keeping with new state law allowing the installation of towers that would accommodate small cell use, but communities must adopt new guidelines in order for these towers to be built without adversely affecting the aesthetics of the community.
