HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Change is in the air after primary elections Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019.
One of Holland’s two at-large city councilmen, Wayne Klomparens, had 978 votes, but his two challengers had more: Hope College math professor Vicki Holmes got 1,154; and Lakeshore Housing Alliance Director Lyn Raymond had 1,314. Raymond and Holmes will face on November’s ballot for the job. Klomparens remains in office until Dec. 31, 2019.
Grand Haven Mayor Geri McCaleb also lost to two challengers, both current members of council: Josh Brugger and Bob Monetza, who face off on the Nov. 6 ballot. McCaleb has been the mayor of Grand Haven since 2011.
Amon the five contenders for a Grand Haven city council seat, Mike Fritz got the most votes,1,135; Ryan Cummins had 782 — they’l compete on the Nov. 6 ballot. The three remaining candidates had the following vote totals: Jamie Cooper 713; Collin D. Beighley 273; and Eric S. Brenberger 225.
Dorr Township’s library milllage was defeated, for the second time, this time by 100 votes: 629 to 529.
In Lee Township a total of 121 votes were cast and both millage questions were approved. The road millage passed on an 85- 36 vote. jwo;efirst-responder millage passed, 82-39
