HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — National Weather Service meteorologists in Grand Rapid issued a beach hazards statement, in effect from 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 30, 2019, through late tonight.
High wave action, rip currents and dangerous swimming conditions expected.
Ottawa and Allegan county sheriff’s deputies have responded to a total of four drownings so far this year, and countless water rescues.
Authorites are asking beachgoers to stay out of hte water and off the piers. Waves will reach 3 to 5 feet and can easily sweep a person off a pier or into deeper water.
Even a strong, experienced swimmer can tire quickly under these conditions.
