HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a serious motorcycle crash that happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday July 24, 2019, on Lakeshore Drive, just south of Quincy Street in Park Township.
A 44-year-old Holland man on a motorcycle crashed after traveling at a high rate of speed, police said, but it’s unclear if the motorcycle collided with a Black SUV before the motorcycle went off the right side of the road.
The motorcycle hit a large rock, then the ground, before heading back onto the road where motorcycle and the man on it landed on Lakeshore’s northbound lanes.
The Black SUV had been northbound on Lakeshore, police said, but made a U-turn near the crash site, leaving the area in a southbound direction.
Police say it’s unclear if the SUV driver was aware of the crash. The motorcyclist went by ambulance to Holland Hospital, for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Police closed a section of Lakeshore Drive during the crash investigation. Police say speed was a definite factor in the crash, and they want to talk with anyone who witnessed it.
