HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Holland City Council meets for a study session at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Holland City Hall, 270 S. River Ave.
City officials will primarily talk about what to do with just under four acres of land the city owns, at 285 W 36th St.
CIty officials have stated they’d like to see the land used for “new single-family housing options near convenient amenities,” and produced a request for proposal earlier this year. The plan calls for mixed-income housing with attention to landscaping.
An appraisal indicates the land is worth about $118,000.
What they got were two plans for homes — one, from Third Coast Homes, which is a joint venture of Jubilee Ministries and Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity, proposed creating 20 to 27 units of mixed-income housing; Darby Enterprises offered a plan for single homes, duplexes or a combination of the two; while Randy Boettjer, who lives near the lot, sent a proposal listing his company as “Save Our Green-Space,” suggesting purchasing the land from the city for $1, to cultivate green space and a bird santuary — and noted he had 59 signatures from his neighbors supporting effectively keeping the woods as they are.
