ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An 81-year-old Allendale man died on Sunday afternoon from injuries suffered when a vehicle ran into his motorized wheelchair in front of his home.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeants Christie Wendt and Bob Ruster, Donald Reister was attempting to cross 68th Avenue north of Lake Michigan Drive just before 3 PM when he apparently pulled his machine in front of a southbound vehicle, driven by 25-year-old Essence Jackson of Grand Rapids. Reister was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office, while Jackson, who was buckled up, was unhurt.
Ruster disclosed the names of those involved on Monday morning, while Wendt added that “alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be a factor in this crash, and 68th Avenue was closed for two hours during the investigation,” which continues.
