HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Avery June Betts, 7, who was being treated for an aggressive type of brain tumor, has died, according to her family and friends.
In a note posted on the Facebook page used for fundraisers and updates, her family posted the following note on Monday, June 24, 2019, which read, in part:
“Heaven has received a new Angel. Avery went home to be with the Lord at 2:40 this afternoon. Much quicker then we expected. There are no words that can truly express our sorrow. We would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts who has prayed and supported Avery over this 16 month journey.”
Other public posts included one from Graafschap Fire Department, which said, in part “Join us in lifting her parents Melissa and Mike Betts and family up in prayer as they grieve the loss of their daughter.”
Mike Betts is a Saugatuck Township fire captain; Melissa Betts is an AMR paramedic. On a website devoted to their daughter’s illess, bettsstrong.com, a note Monday announcing her death noted Avery faced her treatment for the tumor, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG), “always with a smile on her face and a heart overflowing with love for those all around her” and that she was “the kindest, gentlest, funniest little Angel.”
A two-day car-washing fundraiser planned for this weekend will proceed at Saugatuck Department of Public Works, 3338 Blue Star Highway (next to the fire department), noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30, 2019, to help the family with medical bills and funeral expenses.
