HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Republican Rep. Fred Upton (St. Joseph) will keynote the next West Coast Chamber legislative breakfast, set for 7:30-9 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2019, at the Holland Civic Center, 150 W. Eighth St., in Holland.
Upton is U.S. Representative for Southwest Michigan’s Sixth Congressional District (Allegan, Berrien, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties) and has been in office since 1987.
The Sixth District is home to such industries agriculture to auto parts manufacturing to high-tech biomedical innovation centers.
From 2010 to 2016, Upton served as Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. This pivotal committee has jurisdiction over matters concerning energy, healthcare, the environment, telecommunications, commerce, manufacturing, and trade, as well as oversight and investigations. Fred currently serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy, and sits on the Subcommittees on Health, and Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection.
Prior to his election to Congress, Fred worked for President Ronald Reagan in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Fred’s top priorities remain job creation, economic growth, and the quality of life in Southwest Michigan. He maintains two constituent district offices: in Benton Harbor/St. Joseph, and Kalamazoo, as well as Washington D.C..= Fred was born on April 23, 1953, and holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Amey, have two adult children.
