UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – It’s Election Day across Michigan, but not all registered voters need to go the polls along the Lakeshore today.
Three bond proposals highlight the overall slate. West Ottawa Schools is seeking nearly $98 million, mostly for building new facilities and upgrading present ones, including a new school building east of US-31 and constructing a performing arts center, along with a new football/track facility, on the current West Ottawa High campus off of Butternut Drive.
For the second straight spring, Saugatuck Schools is looking for a bond proposal passage, mostly for building improvements, but this year’s nearly $40 million request is less than a $50 million-plus ask that was rejected by voters last May.
Those registered voters living within the boundaries of Holland Public Schools are being asked to decide a $26.3 million bond request by the Holland Community Aquatic Center for upgrades and expansion of the current facility. Unlike the West Ottawa and Saugatuck proposals that has no millage increases, the HCAC proposal does include a tax hike of a quarter of a mill over a 20-year period.
Six school districts – Fennville, Grand Haven, Hudsonville, Martin, West Ottawa and Zeeland – have 18-mill, non-homestead tax renewals before voters, while Casco Township is seeking a renewal of its police protection levy for the community just north of South Haven. Two neighboring school districts – Sparta and Delton Kellogg – have ballot issues that some electors in outlying Ottawa and Allegan counties, respectively, will have to vote upon.
Polls will be open through 8 PM tonight.
