HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The City of Holland is rolling out a new information service to keep residents and visitors informed of any last-minute developments during the Tulip City’s annual signature event.
If you text the term “TULIP TIME 2019” to 226787 on your cellular or smart phone, you will be getting vital information about the Tulip Time Festival, according to City Manager Keith Van Beek. “This isn’t only for general info, but just in case we will need to send any emergency alerts, you can get immediate information on anything that might be happening,” he explained during a Thursday appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.” “We’re not keeping that data after the festival, so at the end, you will be ‘unsubscribed.’”
Holland Department of Public Safety Captain Bob Buursma added that this new service is being provided in conjunction with the Emergency Management Division of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. “We will send out information regarding emergencies, weather-related incidents, or cancellations,” he said during a Friday appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.”
The 90th Tulip Time Festival “unofficially” opened on Thursday with evening Dutch Dancing rehearsals, with another round of rehearsals set for Centennial Park on Friday evening, along with the opening of the Carnival outside of the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place and a Health and Fitness Expo at the MVP Athletic Club. The “official” opening is the Tulip Time Run at Kollen Park on Saturday morning.
