ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It may have been nine years since Bill Huizenga assumed the Congressional mantle from Pete Hoekstra in representing the Lakeshore on Capitol Hill, but the Zeeland Republican is looking to continue following in his mentor’s footsteps in developing the next generation of “leaders.”
On Friday, Huizenga was among a number of featured speakers at his second annual Youth Leadership Summit on the campus of Grand Valley State University. According to the Congressman’s office, about 200 high school juniors from more than 30 schools across his district participated.
“This is really trying to help these kids as they transition into their senior year,” Huizenga explained during a Thursday interview on “WHTC Morning News.” “We’re exposing them to leaders, having them learn about the characteristics and qualities that these leaders have that would help these ‘future leaders’ succeed in both their personal lives as well as in their post-high school endeavors.”
Among those who addressed the group was Muskegon Community College President Dr. Dale Nesbary, Metal Flow Chairman Leslie Brown, and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore Dakota Crow.
