OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Kempker and Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett are joining Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich for press conference in Eaton County today, April 4, 2019, to talk about solving the 2002 cold case death nicknamed “Jack in the Box,” in which May 8, 2002, a farmer discovered a body, burned beyond recognition, in a Grand Haven Township blueberry farm field.
In a statement to media, Reich noted that in 2015 the dead man was identified as Charlotte, MI, resident Robert Caraballo, 35.
The Lansing State Journal reported this week that three people have now been charged in his death, which people believe happened in Charlotte. Christopher McMillan, 40; Beverly McCallum, 58; and Dineane Ducharme, 38; have each been charged with homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide and disinterment and mutilation of a dead body in Eaton County.
The Charlotte Police Department and Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office worked with Eaton County Sheriff’s detectives in the investigation.
Mr. Caraballo’s death was the subject of a documentary by then-Hope College Professor David Shock
