HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Gretchen Whitmer is maintaining a gubernatorial tradition in Michigan.
Officials with the Tulip Time Festival announced on Monday that the first-term Democrat has confirmed her intention to attend the annual midweek “Tulip Time Festival Luncheon” at DeVos Fieldhouse on May 8th and to deliver the keynote address. She follows in the footsteps of a number of her predecessors who came to Holland’s Signature Event on an annual basis, including Republican Rick Snyder, who attended all eight of these occasions during his two terms in office.
The luncheon was rebranded in 2009 from the “Governor’s Luncheon” as Democrat Jennifer Granholm skipped five of the eight events that she was invited to during her gubernatorial tenure. It was not immediately disclosed if Governor Whitmer would don a traditional Dutch costume and walk in the Metal Flow Volksparade after the luncheon, as previous Chief Executives have done.
Tulip Time officials added that they are expecting more than 900 attendees to one of the spotlight events of the 90th festival, which runs from May 4-12. More information on the festival and the luncheon is available online.
