HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland resident Vicki-Lynn Holmes has announced she’ll run for Holland City Council, for the at-large seat currently held by Wayne Klomparens. He faces another challenger, Lynn Raymond.
Holmes, a Hope College math professor, says she’s learned a lot since moving to Holland 11 years ago. She currently serves on Holland’s Human Relations Commission, as well as on the elder board at her church.
The Washington D.C. native said interviewing area residents for the human rights commission proved to be an eye opener.
“If we hadn’t listened to them, we would have been speaking for them incorrectly,” she said. “This is what the issue that they’re talking about: Community, wanting to feel part of a community. That was really big on the list. Affordable houseing was the second thing. Do, how are we more inclusive? And not in a bad way. In a good way.”
Holmes holds two doctorate degrees, in mathematics and religion. She has a website dedicated to her campaign, vote4vicki.com.
