OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — State transportation officials are examining an I-96 overpass after a crash involving a small scrap excavator being hauled west by 49-year-old Zeeland resident Timothy Postma.
This happened just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019, on the westbound lanes of the 16th Avenue overpass in Wright Township, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Douglas, when the excavator’s arm hit the overpass, it broke and smacked a vehicle being driven by 55-year-old Muskegon resident Michael Feutz. The part hit a second vehicle but didn’t damage that or hurt anyone else.
Feutz went via a Life EMS ambulance to Hackley Hospital with minor injuries, Douglas said.
Postma was ticketed for a load height violation. The bridge remains open, but MDoT inspectors are evaluating damage.
Wright / Tallmadge firefighters assisted Ottawa County deputies on the scene.
