Betty De Haan, 93, of Freedom Village, formerly of Zeeland, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2019.
Betty was born in Lucas, Michigan, August 25, 1925, to Thomas and Anna (Heeringa) Lucas. She graduated from MacBain High School and later married Thomas De Haan. Tom and Betty raised their children in Zeeland and were longtime members of Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Betty was an active member at Bethel Church serving in several capacities, and she also served as a 4-H leader. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas De Haan, in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Jane De Haan in 1971, one great-grandchild, and her siblings: Arthur, Jacob, and Harold.
Betty is survived by her children: Nancy and David Harkema of Woodbridge, VA, Gerard De Haan of West Olive, Susan and John Cook of Zeeland, Kristi and Enrique Conde of Zeeland; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, siblings: Esther Betten, Doris Pennell, Ada and Harvey Rillema, Robert Lucas; in-laws: Florence Eylander, Evelyn and Kerwin Boven, Gerald Lucas, James De Haan, and many extended family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 4, 2019, at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 515 East Main Ave., Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will be 2-5 pm, Sunday, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zeeland Christian School or Holland Christian Schools.
