OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Road Commission issued a road cleanup update Friday afternoon, with tips on how area residents can help speed the process.
While road crews worked intensely during the cold snap and intermittent snow storms, they continue clearing pavement, prioritizing most-used roads to lesser-used streets.
- Before the anticipated rain — and its complications — arrives, here’s what residents can do to minimize flooding:
- Keep catch basins and grates clear of snow or ice, so water can drain efficiently — and doesn’t back up if temperatures drop again.
- Move vehicles off the streets, including cul de sacs, so plows can operate safely. If vehicles aren’t moved, they may be towed at the owner’s expense.
- Property owners are responsible for removing snow built up at the end of driveways or parking lots. It’s illegal to shovel or plow snow and ice back onto any road or highway — and could create a safety hazard for others or prolong road commission crews’ cleanup efforts.
