HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The City of Holland — well, its snowmelt sidewalks, anyway — earned a warm shout-out from Runners World Magazine — for having close to 5 miles of five miles of walkways that are snow-free throughout the winter.
The city’s snowmelt system keeps walking surfaces at just about 40 degrees year-round with underground waterworks.
The system reduces costs for the city, because no one has to shovel or salt those surfaces, and as a side benefit, it’s helping turn Holland into something of a regional running mecca, according to the Runner’s World story by journalist Jacob Meschke, a Michigan native.
